At Boylos, we are constantly reviewing our products to make sure we have on offer top quality watersports equipment. That’s why in 2021 we started stocking a new brand of Sup from Dutch company Moai, based in Holland, inspired by the Polynesians.
With the manufacturing of paddle boards becoming increasingly cheaper over the years, stand up paddle boarding has been made super accessible. Gone are the days of a board costing a minimum of £800, allowing more people to get out on the water. This flooding of the market also brings its disadvantages as with so many options, its difficult to know what kind of board to go for. If this is you, let us introduce you to Moai.
The brand name originates from the monolithic human statues ‘Moai’s’ which were created by the inhabitants of 'Rapa Nui' also know today as Easter Island. Easter Island was settled by the Polynesians, incredible explorers who loved the water and travelled the Pacific for thousands of kilometres. They were also known for inventing surfing and stand up paddle boarding.
So what do they say about themselves?
‘We Always pursue quality, durability and innovation for our products. As a team, we have many years of experience in the industry, in product development, retail marketing’
Their Mission Statement is to create the most innovative and qualitative water sport products in the industry, with a cutting-edge design, and affordable for the recreational market.
From an aesthetics point of view, we loved Moai’s board designs straight away. Their clever integration of Polynesian art paired with ocean blues and vibrant orange, makes this board pretty recognisable out on the water.
At Boylos, we have tried and tested their boards and stock their 10’6 and 12’4 stand up paddle packages. These come with everything you need for getting on the water including an adjustable fibreglass paddle, trolley bag with wheels and double action pump.
10’6
Last year we used the Moai 10'6 board for our summer SUP lessons. Their width and length give them great stability which are the elements we look for in a beginners board. Their inflatable nature also means they can be fairly portable. Overall, the diversity of these boards provide the versatility for racing, wave riding and even yoga. This board is also available in a cool pink design.
12’4
The 12’4 Moai Sup is designed as a family/ multi person board. Two people can use it either as a sup or kayak, with easy attachable kayak seats sold separately. This board is ideal for adventuring, with handy cargo bungees to hold down your luggage, and multiple carry handles. It’s also great for mucking around in the water with your kids.
Firstly, and most importantly, we always look for quality. The MSL/Fusion technology in Moai's boards provide durability and stability preventing the boards becoming easily punctured or bowing in the water. Moai boards are also a great price, providing great value for money. Finally, they are also passionate about giving back, so with every board purchase they donate to particular charities including World Land Trust, Pink Ribbon and WWF. What's not to love?
